Editorial policy and corrections

Learning a wrong answer or planning around an outdated deadline costs time and money. This page says where everything comes from and what happens when something is wrong.

Primary sources only

Questions: BAMF’s complete question catalogue and annex 1 to the Citizenship Test Ordinance;
Answers: the Basic Law, state constitutions, electoral laws and official federal and state records;
Periods and fees: the Nationality Act, Residence Act, Residence Ordinance and Citizenship Test Ordinance on gesetze-im-internet.de, plus the German Pension Insurance’s reference values and official fact sheets.

Other practice sites, forums and guides are not sources, not even for answers.

Answers without an official key

BAMF publishes the catalogue without answers. Each answer is therefore tied to a primary source and confirmed by a second review. Where a question depends on current politics, we follow the latest BAMF catalogue and give its date. The English translations are ours and carry no official weight.

Not yet published

Anything only announced or in draft is marked “not yet published”. The calculator only uses a change once it has been enacted.

Schedule

A script regularly compares BAMF’s catalogue and the legal texts with our version and flags every change. A full review at least every 12 months and after any change to the Nationality Act or the catalogue.

Corrections

Check against the primary source.
Fix in the data or parameter file and add a test.
New date on every page.

Independence

No money from authorities, language schools, test centres or law firms. No course recommendations, no forms, no callbacks.
